Snowflakes
So softy came the snowflakes down
That no one heard in all the town.
And right-side up they landed too,
As parachuting elves would do.
So when the morning came – surprise!
The world lay white before your eyes.
With cotton roof and hills a-blur
And avenues of rabbit fur

"Storm"
by Robert Pack
from Minding the Sun Copyright 1996 by Robert Pack; used with permission
Cascading snowflakes settle in the pines,
Sculpting each tree to fit your ghostly form
The surge of swirling wind defines
As if your human shape were what the storm
Sought to contrive, intending to express
Its consciousness of my white consciousness,
Sculpting each tree to fit your ghostly form.
Cascading snowflakes settle in the pines,
Swaying in unison beneath the snow,
Calling me to you with wild gesturings
Homeward into the howling woods, although
Thinking of your abiding spirit brings
Only a whiter absence to my mind,
Only whirled snow heaped up by whirled snow,
Only a fox whose den I cannot find.

  1. As for me, I like winter. I like it for its snow, wind, white color.. Everything is so simple, and at the same time so mysterous.
May be, I like winter,as it is really time of comfort. I absolutely agree with Edith Sitwell. In this season we usualy try to find comfort and warmth. Because it's so pleasant to stay at home with your family, in front of a huge TVset, with a cup of tea and a piece of home-made pie. Or, what a pleasure is to sit in an empty room, listening to quiet music and look through the window at the falling snow..

  2. Winter is a wonderful season for me. In my opinion snow, cold, wind are so mighty. I live in the north and I like my motherland because I like winter.
This poem is full of nice words that describe a really cold season.
