Валюта Британии

 Decimal Day (15 February 1971) was the day the United Kingdom and Ireland decimalised their currencies.Today's Currency in Britain is the pound sterling. The sign for the pound is:
Since decimalisation in 1971, the pound has been divided into 100 pence. Up until 1971, the pound was made up of 240 pence. There were twelve pence in a shilling and 20 shillings in a pound. The currency was decimalised because adding up sums of money was more complicated than with a decimal currency.

People outside the countries were confused with how much the following coins were worth:
1 'farthing' worth one quarter of an old penny
1 'florin' worth 2 shillings (2s)
1 'shilling' (1s) worth 12 pence
'half-crown' - worth two shillings and sixpence, or one eighth of a pound).

St. Valentine's Day

Отправить открытку другу
This was originally thought to be the day on which birds chose their mates. There are many traditions and tales associated with romance activities on Valentine’s Day including:

• The first man an unmarried woman saw on 14th February would be her future husband;
• If the names of all a girl’s sultors were written on paper and wrapped in clay and the clay put into water, the piece that rose to the surface first would contain the name of her husband-to-be;
• If a woman saw a robin flying overhead on Valentine’s Day, it meant she would marry a sailor. If she saw a sparrow, she would marry a poor man and be very happy. If she saw a goldfinch, she would marry a rich person.
Each year in Britain, we spend a lot of money on cards, flowers, chocolates and other gifts for Valentine’s Day. Traditionally these were sent anonymously, but now-a-days we often make it clear who is sending each “Valentine”.

Селин Дион

Céline Marie Claudette Dion, a Canadian singer, was born March 30, 1968. She was the youngest of 14 children. Early in childhood, she sang with her siblings in a small club owned by her parents. Dion emerged as a teen star in the French-speaking world after her manager and future husband René Angélil mortgaged his home to finance her first record. In 1990, she established herself as a viable pop artist in North America and other English-speaking areas of the world. Dion first met her husband and manager, Rene Angelil in 1980, when she was 12 and he was 38, after she and her mother sent him a demo tape of a song they had written. They began a relationship in 1987, and became engaged in 1991. They married on December 17, 1994, at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec. On January 5, 2000, Dion and Angelil renewed their wedding vows in Las Vegas. They had three children. On 15 October 2010, Céline Dion was nominated Goodwill Ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
